Welcome to the BioNLP and Text Mining lab at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) at the University of Delaware!

Our lab focuses on research with many exciting projects in diverse areas such as bioinformatics, text mining, and natural language processing. Our faculty and students publish high quality conference and journal papers each year and have received a number of "best paper" nominations and awards. Support for our lab is provided through a multitude of research grants from outside agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

  • Vijay has been awarded the S. Y. Kuroda Prize by the Mathematics of Language folks. This prize given for "significant lasting advance in mathematical linguistics" was awarded to us for our work on "convergence of MCS formalisms".
  • Samir had his paper "Part-of-Speech Tagging of Program Identifiers for Improved Text-Based Software Engineering Tool" awarded the conference Best Research Paper in 21st Annual International Conference on Program Comprehension, IEEE, May 2013.
